Grassy Waters Preserve Apoxee Trail — Pinelands and Mud
The Apoxee Trail becomes the Apoxee River at this point. We shot this photo in late April, toward the end of incredibly dry dry season. Portions of the trail were mucky up until this point, but easily passable. But the water here covered the entire trail and left no way of getting around it. Had we hiked the trail a week earlier, it would have been totally dry. More importantly, from a habitat standpoint, note that slash pines are becoming the dominant canopy element — Photo by David Sedore
