A Surprisingly Rugged Landscape

Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Collier County

limestone outcroppings

One of the surprises of the prairie is the presence of limestone outcroppings, as seen in this photo. This is the limestone that underlies much of Florida, and outcroppings like can be found in the extreme southern end of the Peninsula. These are a bit jagged and make for surprisingly rugged terrain through this section of Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. Not the greatest of photos — the golden hour giveth and the golden hour taketh — but it does capture the terrain. NEXT PHOTO.
