Frenchman's Forest Natural Area — Tidal Lagoon
tidal lagoon
This is a prime example of Palm Beach County's Department of Environmental Resource Management turning a lemon into lemonade. What's now a mangrove forest and tidal lagoon was once little more than a tidal hole in the ground, a scar created when developers took fill for their projects. When the county took the property, they lined it with no less than 5,000 red mangrove saplings. The lagoon now attracts a variety of birds and other wildlife, including river otters. The lagoon is near the parking lot and features an observation platform, from which this photo was taken — Photo by David Sedore
