Twin Towers and a View from Above

Hypoluxo Scrub National Area, Palm Beach County

panoramic view

This is the view of Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area as seen from the third level of one of the three-level observation towers at the entrance to the preserve. It gives the impression of place fairly dense with vegetation, and it is in places. There are dense stands of scrub oaks, saw palmetto and Florida rosemary made even more dense by heavy mats of love vine and greenbriar. But it's much more open than this what this photo lets on. Compare with this photo taken from the ground looking back toward the towers. You can see one of them in the left center. This is a rather simplistic example of what naturalists call truthing. They'll use aerial photos to survey a large tract of land, then walk the ground to verify what the photos tell them. In this case, the angle deceives.

By the way, the twin towers are absolutely massive, and afford panoramic views of Hypoluxo Scrub and the surrounding area. This the view of the towers from the parking area near the Hypoluxo Road entrance. The first level of the towers are wheelchair accessible and connected. Next Photo.
