Leave the depression marsh and the land elevates a bit and becomes coastal scrub. Tough, tough land. No tall trees. The hiking trail becomes soft sand. Nature throws every obstacle it has in the path of anyone trying to cut through this land — saw palmetto, scrub oaks, staggerbush, fetterbush tangled with love vine. Depending on the time of the year, you'll see wildflowers, some rare, like skyblue lupine, large-flowered rosemary and shiny-leaf blueberry — Photo by David Sedore
