This is the lagoon at Tigertail Beach Park looking north. The narrow strip of sand in the center of the photo separates the lagoon from Big Marco Pass and the Gulf of Mexico when tides are low but is submerged when tides are high. To get there, you've either got to walk around to the south end of the beach and back north along the beach itself, a distance of several miles, or take the short cut and walk across the lagoon, as many beachgoers do. For the adventerous and energetic, it's a splendidly isolated piece of beach. Beyond the wooded area to the right of the photo is a residential neighborhood, and beyond that the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and Collier Bay.
