There is a boardwalk that parallels the length of the Blue Spring run, from the vent to its junction with the St Johns River. When you get past the swimming area and the concession stores, the trail becomes heavily wooded with an array of hardwood trees and cabbage palms. Along this portion of the trail you might hear, perhaps see barred owls, particularly in the evening. White-tailed deer are also possibilities. The boardwalk makes for easy walking but it also protects the spring and the run from erosion by keeping visitor's feet off the bank.
