Wild South Florida's Virtual Tour of

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Collier County

red shouldered hawk

Cover Photo: We spotted this red-shouldered hawk deep within Corkscrew Swamp perched as if it were standing guard over its domain. And it really was. The swamp was its turf, and we were the visitors to be watched over, well, like a hawk. One notable thing about this photo is the time of year that it was taken: in mid-February, when the swamp opens up relative to other times of the year and reveals its interior secrets. Had the same hawk been sitting in the same place a few months earlier or a few months later, we most likely would not have gotten this clear a look at him, maybe not seen him at all.
