The Royals of Fakahatchee

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, Copeland, Collier County

royal palm trees

Drive far enough along Janes Scenic Drive and you'll see these magnificent royal palm trees towering above the canopy. Royal palms are common landscaping elements but extraordinarily rare in the wild. Rare enough that Florida lists them as endangered. Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park has the largest population of royal palms in the United States and one of two cypress/royal palm forests in the world. NEXT STOP: The East Main Tram
