Flooding at Corbett was a problem in the decade after the state bought the land in 1947, so in the 1960s, the forerunner of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission built a series of canals and dug culverts through levees in order to solve the problem. It also created peaceful spots like this as well as opportunities for canoers and kayekers. You'll see launches at some of the campgrounds, particularly those along North Grade Road. It's probably the biggest topographical difference between Corbett North and Corbett Hungryland, as we have split the WMA
