Snake Road is a very wet place, lined with canals and borrow pits — places where rock and soil have been quarried — borrowed, if you will — and water has taken its place. What's taken has been used in a variety of projects, perhaps even the construction of Snake Road itself. Of course like the proverbial borrowed cup of sugar, it's never returned. There's nothing really borrowed. Anyway, the presence of all this water is one reason that makes Snake Road a hot spot for wading birds and other wildlife. These are great places to pull over and grab your camera or binoculars.
