Wooded paths like this criss-cross through Tree Tops park and into Pine Island Ridge Natural Area. The woods are full of live oaks and sabal palms, while the understory includes American beautyberry, wild coffee, marlberry and other shrubs. More than half of Pine Island Ridge Natural Area is xeric hardwood hammock, among the state's rarest habitats, according to the Florida Natural Area Inventory.
