Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area — Summer Rains

We've been to Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area in the middle of the summer rainy season and found the place bone dry. On the other hand, a typical South Florida storm can render the Pine Lily Trail impassable. The trail at this point became a pond that extended for 40 or 50 feet and across its width into the adjoining vegetation. Of course, if you're on horseback, this probably ain't no thing. The plants found in these places, yellow-eyed grass, hat pins, roundpod among them, give evidence that the place is wet a good portion of the time — Photo by David Sedore
