The Borrow Pit Wants its Rocks Back

Tree Tops Park, Pine Island Ridge Natural Area, Davie, Broward County

borrow pit lake
Of course we made that up, but it brings us to the question: why do they call them borrow pits when the material taken from them is gone forever? In any case, this little lake is a lovely, little spot to take in as you first enter the Tree Tops Park. Explore the margins of the lake; look for wading birds, maybe an osprey looking for a meal. The shoreline along the left side of the photo is within the park; we're guessing the shoreline directly across, with the Australian pines, is not.
